Privacy Policy Save Web as PDF
Last updated: September 28, 2026
Save Web as PDF is a free, MIT-licensed Chrome extension developed by MINGJIE ZHU (“we”). This policy covers the extension, related support emails and optional contributions. Contact: support@miengieh.com.
Webpage editing and PDF generation take place locally in Chrome. The extension does not upload your webpages or PDFs to us.
1. Local data processing and permissions
When you choose to edit or export a page, the extension processes its content, layout, title and URL, your editing actions, the generated PDF and temporary export status. These are used only to edit, prepare, name, preview, save or cancel your PDF. Content may include personal or sensitive information present on the page.
The source URL stored for the preview has its query string and fragment removed. This does not anonymize the page, its title, other parts of the URL or links inside the PDF. The extension does not separately collect passwords, authentication cookies or browsing history, or monitor unrelated tabs.
| Chrome permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
activeTab | Access the current page when you invoke the extension. |
scripting | Run local code to edit and prepare that page. |
debugger | Use Chrome’s printing functionality to generate the PDF; detach during cleanup. |
downloads | Save the PDF at your request. |
storage | Maintain temporary export coordination state locally. |
2. Local storage and deletion
- PDFs and source metadata are temporarily stored in local IndexedDB and removed from that database when the preview reads them. The preview retains a local copy until closed.
- Unread records older than 24 hours are removed at a later cleanup opportunity, not necessarily at exactly 24 hours.
- Export status contains no webpage content or PDF and is removed during cleanup or when the browser session ends.
- Uninstalling the extension removes its browser storage. Downloaded PDFs remain until you delete them yourself.
Local storage relies on Chrome and your device’s protections.
3. Network activity and external services
The extension has no developer-operated processing server, accounts, analytics, advertising or tracking, and does not transmit exported content to us or third parties. Preparing a page may cause that website to load resources through its own network connections.
Links to our website, GitHub or Stripe open only when you select them. Those services handle visits under their own privacy notices; the extension does not attach your webpage content, source URL or PDF to these links.
Optional contributions are processed by Stripe. Payment takes place outside the extension, which does not handle payment details. Stripe may make payer contact details and transaction information available to us to administer contributions, refunds and required records; we do not receive full card numbers.
4. Optional support emails
Support email is optional and separate from the extension, which sends no automatic feedback or diagnostic reports. We receive your email address, any sender name, email metadata, and the content and attachments you choose to send, solely to respond, investigate reported problems and maintain support correspondence.
We use Alibaba Cloud Enterprise Mail (Alibaba Cloud Computing Co., Ltd.) to send, receive and store email. Email may be processed and stored in China, involving cross-border processing for senders elsewhere. See the Alibaba Mail Privacy Policy. This does not involve uploading data from the extension.
We normally retain feedback emails as support records, without a fixed automatic deletion period. You may request deletion at the contact address below; we will delete relevant emails we control unless continued retention is legally required. Provider-held backup copies, if any, may remain temporarily under the provider’s retention and deletion arrangements. Contribution records are retained for payment administration and applicable legal requirements.
Where EU or UK data protection law applies, our basis for support correspondence is our legitimate interest in responding to and following up on requests. Contribution processing is based on fulfilling your requested transaction and legal obligations. Where consent is required, we obtain it and you may withdraw it.
We do not sell personal information, share it for targeted advertising or use it for profiling. Disclosures are limited to the providers described above and disclosures required by law.
5. Your choices and rights
You control which pages to export and which files to keep. We cannot remotely access or delete your local PDFs.
For information we hold, contact support@miengieh.com to request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability, where applicable. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests. You may withdraw consent where it is the basis for processing, without affecting earlier lawful processing, and complain to your local data protection authority. We respond within applicable legal deadlines and do not penalize you for exercising these rights.
6. Chrome Web Store requirements and updates
Our use of information obtained through Chrome APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
We will update this policy and relevant store disclosures when our practices change, before releasing changes that affect data handling, and provide additional notice or obtain consent where required.
